FAQS

Are all continuing education classes free?

Most continuing education classes are free, but there are some personal enrichment classes such as art, drama, music, dance, sewing and cooking are offered for a fee, based on the number of hours the class meets.

There is no preregistration for FEE classes: general interest, enrichment, recreational and avocational classes. FEEs are $4.25 per hour of instruction, as set by the SDCCD Board of Trustees. Fees are due and payable the first hour of the first class. FEE classes begin approximately every 6 weeks. See course listings

How do I register?

You can register for most Continuing Education classes by simply going to the first class and signing up at the place and time listed.

It's important to show up for the first class, as low-enrolled classes may result in the class being cancelled (closed). If you miss the first class, contact the offering campus. If the class is still open and there is room you can register directly in the class.

Exceptions to in-class registration are:

  1. major vocational training programs require meeting with a counselor
  2. some computer classes require an orientation session
  3. short-term workshops
  4. classes taught online

The above types of classes may require pre registration either in-person at the campus, or by phone.

ESL Class Registration

Go to the placement office at the Campus where you wish to attend classes. You may enroll at any time. Please note that the San Diego Continuing Education Program does not issue I-20s. I-20s may only be obtained through a public or private college or through a privately owned school.

If I don’t attend the first class, can I still attend? Is it too late to register after class has started?

The majority of the classes are available for enrollment at anytime throughout the semester. We do have some classes where it may be difficult to start after the second class meeting. Certificate programs must meet for a minimum number of hours in order to obtain the certificate; therefore, those classes usually have a pre-registration requirement and the student must meet the minimum number of hours required for that certificate.
