Biography:
Jan Forstrom coordinates the district’s EL Civics grant, a federally funded program directed to help newcomers to the United States live successful lives in their new communities. The goals of EL Civics implementation are to provide English language instruction that goes beyond the classroom and to equip students with the language and skills they need to apply for a job, interact with health professionals, communicate with a child’s school and access information and services in the community.

Jan serves on the California State CATESOL Board of Directors representing Adult Level ESL. She also serves on the state field committee that reviews and revises pre-approved assessments for EL Civics. She is the co-author of Contemporary English Book 2 Teacher’s Guide (2000 McGraw- Hill) and Contemporary English Book 2, revised edition (2003 McGraw-Hill). In addition, she is co-author of Excellent English, an adult-level ESL text series, published by McGraw-Hill in 2008.
